Sacramento and Napa, California

1983

When I took the job as a research assistant in the  Governor's Office, I knew the work would be great. But I was worried about leaving friends behind in Southern California and whether I'd have fun and meet people in my new surroundings.

I shouldn't have worried. From day one, there were plenty of people my age in the office. Many were also recent transplants to Sacramento and we quickly connected. The first year was filled with outings that included winter sports like cross country and snow skiing, wine tasting in the Napa Valley, and plenty of after work receptions and weekend picnics.

To this day, when I mention someone I know or tell a story, there's a better than average chance that it's somehow connected to those eight years in the Governor's Office.
