According to one website, "it's a place where tourists still can legally sip beer in the sand, where a potted plant grows from a discarded toilet outside a breakfast diner, and the Beach Bum Parade every May features locals armed with water guns soaking the crowd from a procession of pickups."
For better or for worse, our experience was quite different. We splurged on an oceanfront hotel and then enjoyed playing in the warm ocean waters and dining on fresh seafood.
