Chickamauga Battlefield, Georgia

August 26, 2006

This is Chickamauga, site of a vicious battle between Union and Confederate troops in the fall of 1863 for control of Chattanooga, the gateway to the deep south.  While there, we happened upon a regiment that was reenacting a gun battle, and then bought an audio CD to narrate the self-guided driving tour around the battlefield. Katie not only was intrigued with the stories of the three day battle, but also offered a clever play on words...

Katie: "They already had knives, right?"

Me: Yes, they fought with knives and bayonets and guns.

Katie: "So the war was to decide who got the forks and spoons?"

Me: What?

Katie: Didn't you said it was called the 'Silverware War?'
