Despite the budget cutbacks that have plagued many school programs, Katie's class has a dedicated group of parents who never seem to tire in their efforts to raise money for classroom supplies and field trips. Last fall, the class went to a local science museum where they took a Mission to Mars and spent the afternoon learning about astronomy. In February, the kids toured a museum exhibit about the Japanese relocation camps during World War II and met with four people who, as children, spent several years in camps in California, Arizona and Arkansas. Later this year, the class will venture on a chartered bus to the Tech Museum in San Jose. But the big prize for the kids was this three day trip to Marin Headlands, which featured hikes to Scotty's Bluff, Three-Quarters Dome and Rodeo Beach, as well as lessons in native plants, wildlife and picking the proper bunk mate. |
