The Department of Interior, where we had several meetings, is just a couple of blocks from the White House. The building covers five acres and has nearly three miles of corridors. Built during the Great Depression, it was first large federal facility with air conditioning and the first with an escalator. The office boasts modern and classical architecture, abundant artwork and other classic design elements, checkered marble floors, and oak paneling in the executive offices.
