Our adventure in Maui continued as we visited the Iao Needle and walked on some of the adjacent hiking trails through the narrow valley. As we learned, about 200 years ago King Kamehameha I defeated the Maui army here in a pivotal battle in his quest to unite the islands under one rule, a feat that had never been accomplished prior. The Needle was an ideal spot to watch enemy movement.
