Sioux Falls, South Dakota

What started out as a one night stopover here on our way to my states #48 and #49, turned into all day adventure. The city is so picturesque and we had a great time exploring the impressive Falls Park, some fine Midwest culinary mastery for lunch at Bob's Cafe and the downtown sculpture walk. Then we hopped on the trolley tour where an enthusiastic guide told us all about the city's past as a economic boomtown for trappers, mills, railroads, meat packing industry, the notorious bank robbers who made their mark here, and then gave us a glimpse of the redevelopment that's taking place here today. I've had this grand plan floating around in my head for a while that when I retire, I'll spend a year in 10 different cities in the U.S., just to have that experience of someplace new to live and explore. I think Lisa could see the wheels spinning as we drove through town. "Don't even think about it," she cautioned me. "You'd be out of here the minute the first snowflake hit the ground."
