December 25, 2004

It had been several years since we hosted Christmas dinner for the family at our house. But everyone was agreeable this year so long as we met the high standard of a Lawry's style prime rib dinner that Dave and Jenny have set at recent December 25th meals. Dinner came off without a hitch.

Nicest surprises of the day: Marlene's new boyfriend, Don, walked Danny through a couple of lessons on the new iPod. You see, Don, has been an iPod user for years since it lets him keep most of his musical collection close at hand (Don used to be a rock and roll DJ, we learned in the process.) He also told Joe that no cell phone compares with a Blackberry, which he swears by because it lets him get emails from all his clients when he's on the road. (Don dabbles in computer programming and has quite a list of clients who he has had to train to email him if they want his attention).

Then Dad shared some great memories about Mottell's Mortuary, which in its hey-day, often ran 8-12 funerals a day. Apparently, it was THE place to be, when you're done doing everything else in life. And Marlene spilled dirt about the weekend year ago when Joe and Boo-boo had a bash at the house while she and Lloyd Sr. were away, noting "I knew something was up when the house was cleaner when we got home than when we'd left."

Of course, the topper of all was Danny's quiet comment to me that "this is the best Christmas ever..."
