Our taxi driver was waiting when we got off the ship Sunday morning and whisked us away to the fish hatchery a few miles away. About halfway there, she pulled to the side of the road and pointed up into a tree. "A bald eagle!  We've seen the nest for weeks, but this is the first time I've seen the eagle," she told us.

Next Stop was the Deer Mountain Tribal Hatchery at Herring Cove where they raise tens of thousands of king and coho salmon. Bears frequent this area during salmon spawning season, and we were lucky enough to see a mama and her two year-old enjoying a morning snack.
