Lookout Mountain - more than 1,200 feet above the valley floor - is surrounded on three sides by a near vertical rock wall. It's the site of the 1863 Battle Above the Clouds, a turning point in the Civil War.

With nearly every other nearby store or attraction closed on Sunday morning, this mountaintop historical park was a nice place to spend a few hours. We wandered around Cravens house and then took a short hike out to the edge of Lookout Point and caught this view of the Tennessee River and Chattanooga far below.
