Rochester, New York

Goodman Street was named for my great x5 grandfather Titus Goodman who purchased a 100-acre farm here in January 1925. The New York Central railroad was built through the farm, connecting it to markets across the state. The land stayed in the family for 80-90 years.

Nearly 70 years ago, Aunt Marty took mom, Judy and Paul on a cross-country summertime road trip and snapped this photo at the corner of Goodman Street and Harvard. Today, we found it and I did the same.

This is now called the Lock 66 neighborhood, which derives its name from the section of the Erie Canal that wound its way through this area. The lock was dismantled in the early 20th Century to make way for a trolley.

Before leaving town, we found the old Xerox headquarters building in downtown Rochester. I vaguely remember when Dad brought the family here in the early 1970s. It was the tallest building in the city and while it still stands, the faded markings on the base of the building are the only remnant of its glory days.
