Syracuse, New York

April 24, 2021

We learned a few things this afternoon.

At one time, Syracuse was home to the nation's largest salt industry thanks to salt springs at the southern end of Lake Onondaga
. In the 1800s, there were hundreds of sheds and blocks along the shoreline where water was evaporated or boiled out of brine pumped from wells around the lake. The Salt Museum was closed today - either because of timing or COVID - but we are salty and enjoyed being here anyway.

There is a Sims Hall on the Syracuse campus. I like to think it was named after a distant relative, but probably not.

Our hotel building a former synagogue. That's a first.

And finally, it's not easy to find the Erie Canal - at least not the part with water in it - despite several tries. (We found it the next day)
