Russian River, California

August 24, 2020

On Monday afternoon, Dad called the Blue Heron restaurant in Duncans Mill adn was assured by the owners that he would be able to get back into Monte Rio, even though the mandatory evacuation orders were still in place.

So once we finished lunch at our motel in Santa Rosa, he and mom took the road through Occidental and were able to go west on River Road. (The police still had the other direction blocked.)

After hearing of their success, Katie and I soon followed. We didn't stay long, but it was great to see them getting settled after a week away, especially since this is Dad's birthday and I'm sure there is no place he would rather be than at home.

The next morning, Katie and I left Santa Rosa, convinced it would be a few more days until the road to the cabin was reopened. We were wrong. By the time we hit San Francisco, we got an alert that the evacuation for that part of the river had been downgraded to a warning.

Oh well. We'll just have to go back again soon.
