Granby and Golden, Colorado
July 5, 2019
We stopped in two small towns before returning to Denver. First was Granby, a ranching town that's become a recreation destination for fishing and skiing. There's a darker side to the town's history. About 25 years ago, a local resident, distraught after his zoning permit was denied, over drove his bulldozer on a rampage into several stores, the library, the city hall and the home of the former mayor before killing himself. Next was Golden, a former gold rush town and home to the Colorado School of Mines and Coors Beer which operates its single-site brewery there. It's got a very cute downtown, with historic murals on many of the buildings and some very beautiful old homes on the adjacent streets. |
