New York City, New York

March 28, 2026

With no real plans for the day, we headed down to the Bowery for breakfast at the legendary Katz’s Delicatessen. Kathy tried to order a pastrami omelet, only to be told by the waiter that was “a good way to ruin pastrami.” We took the hint and were quickly steered toward the classics: perfectly stacked sandwiches for Dee and Kathy while I opted for a bagel piled high with lox and cream cheese.

Next, we set out to find the brightly painted stretch of Doyers Street in Chinatown. The colors were faded from the winter weather, but the charm was still there. We ducked into a cozy coffee shop and lingered in the sunshine for a while.

Our walk toward the Oculus at the World Trade Center turned into a series of unexpected discoveries: the African Burial Ground, City Hall, and block after block of beautiful historic facades.

After spending time at the 9/11 Memorial, we made our way to Hudson Yards. We relaxed near the Vessel and enjoyed a glass of Italian wine at Eataly before catching sight of the No Kings March passing through the streets near our hotel.

We capped off the evening with dinner at Tavern on the Green, a show at 54 Below, and, finally, the Times Square Midnight Moment.

A full and memorable last day in New York City.
