Plumbing work in
our building usually means shutting off the
water to an entire column of units for a couple
of hours. To give residents a heads-up,
management posts a notice in the elevators. It's
a minor inconvenience and generally not a big
deal.
Today, however,
things took an unexpected turn. Someone
took offense to the notice and tore it down.
That prompted a sharp handwritten response,
followed by another comment that was largely
illegible.
My first thought
was that a resident in the affected stack of
condos was upset about losing water for a few
hours.
Not even close.
As it turns out,
one owner wasn't angry about the water shutoff
at all. She was upset about the appearance of
the notice. According to the super, she
complained that these signs "should be printed
on a computer with a gold border."
Hey, I'm all for a style guide, but demanding
branding for a plumbing notice may be taking
condo living a bit too far.
