Monte Rio, California

August 16, 2025

Every ten years there’s a short window of time when all of Mom’s siblings (and their spouses) fall within the same decade—after Aunt Barbara’s July birthday and before Dad (and now Mom) turn the page to the next one.

To mark the occasion of family in their 80s, Amanda and Dave organized a family reunion for this summer.

Originally planned for the cabin, we made the wise move from Casa Majulana to Monte Rio where we could still enjoy the river with a lot less climbing and lugging food and drink across the path.

But to make us feel right at home, Lisa and Katie borrowed the sign from the cabin.

Not everyone could make it—Judy stayed in Bangkok, Alix remained in Canada, Anna and her crew are in Argentina, and Jerry and Alex couldn’t get away from Southern California—but most of the rest of the family gathered as well as Aunt Claire, Uncle Jim and cousin Tim.

It was a wonderful celebration filled with storytelling, favorite family recipes, and the kind of reconnection that only happens when we’re all together.
