Today, I had a quick business trip to LA for a meeting with Australian water officials to talk about drought, climate change and water management. My presentation went well, the attendees were interesting and knowledgeable, and we had a nice reception afterwards on historic Olvera Street, across from Metropolitan Water District's offices.

The day, however, will be remembered for taking the wrong turn as I was driving to my meeting. Note to self: I really need to stop thinking that just because I grew up in Los Angeles and worked downtown in the 1980s, that I still know exactly how to get places.

Approaching the water district's offices, I instead turned into a drop off area for Union Station and Amtrak.  As I was leaving that roundabout, I found myself on a freeway onramp which turned out to the El Monte Busway that has no exits for eight miles. I fortunately didn't draw the attention of any CHP officers on my journey, but sure felt stupid.
