I don't remember the finished house (and maybe I didn't go back), but I remember June talking about their mortgage. She made it a habit to always pay the next month's mortgage one day after the current month's payment was due. That way, she had a cushion of 29 days. But one time, she mailed it too early and it applied only the principal, and then she still had to pay the next month's mortgage payment. She was so mad. I didn't understand it at the time but still think about that whenever I pay my bills (especially on the rare occasion I mail a payment early.)
