Tacoma, Washington

October 8, 2007

After flying up to Seattle to see Michelle (which unfortunately didn't happen), I had a couple of hours to kill before heading home.

I decided to check out Tacoma.

I'd read about the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, a large pedestrian bridge that links the bustling downtown area to the waterfront. It was designed by Dale Chihuly, a glass artist and native of Tacoma, and the walkway is lined with large installations of his works.

Nearby is the restored Union Station, the Tacoma Narrows suspension bridge, and a very cool Starbucks.

(The Cal/EPA building in Sacramento, where I worked for several years, had two large Chihuly sculptures in the lobby - that's where I first became acquainted with these works.)
