Temecula and Hemet, California

May 14-15, 2016

It was another great weekend at our annual Solar Cup competition.  And this year, the weather cooperated which added to the enjoyment. I spent the first morning on one of the pontoon boats out on the lake, and then helped with various chores and activities the rest of the time.

On Saturday night, several of us stopped for a drink at a local winery. As we were leaving, the chairman invited Dee to dinner at his home. At first, she declined, but the more we thought about it, the more fun it seemed. (Notice how it went from "Dee" to "Dee and me?")  So we cleaned up and headed over to his ranch.

The home is about a hundred years old, nestled at the base of the San Jacinto mountains and used to be a Catholic girls boarding school, we were told. It's been the Record family now for about 60 years and is a lovely ranch style home with tons of character. Outside is a pool and acres of alfalfa and other crops. For our meal, Randy bbq'd homemade sausages (flavored with wines from his winery in San Luis Obispo), tuna he caught a week earlier in Mexico, and steaks. And of course, some of his award winning "Randy's Red" wines. We sat on the patio, next to a roaring fire in their stone fireplace and enjoyed the sunset.
