Of late, my lunchtime walk has been a mile down R Street, and then a mile back to the office. It's an interesting walk. For years, city planners have talked about the promise of a revitalized R Street Corridor as a livable mix-use neighborhood. A couple of weeks ago, the city erected a gateway arch and some artwork, and some of the old industrial buildings are returning to life as restaurants and music venues. There's a long way to go and I often see rather colorful characters hanging out on the old loading docks, but it's fun to watch the progress.
