If you just look at the photos, you would think our day consisted simply of a nice hike through the meadow and up the hill for a birds eye view of the Bay Area, Delta and Travis Air Force Base. This is part of 2,000 acres of marsh and rolling grassland owned by Solano Land Trust. This particular trail is open to hikers and dogs who, much to Jasper's delight, can be off-leash.

A few dozen cows graze on the land, and they kept their distance from us.  But on the way back down the hill, Jasper started rolling on the grass, obviously delighted. As we got close, we could see he was covered with something. Mud?  Not quite. He'd found what my friend calls a meadow biscuit - or, in layman's terms, a cow pie.

I should have taken pictures of Jasper up close, because it was quite a site.  So was the process of trying to clean him before getting in the car (And I really liked that jacket of mine we had to sacrifice for the cause). From there, we had to track down the closest do-it-yourself dog wash, and give him a thorough cleaning.

I couldn't bring myself to capture those moments with my camera. Too disgusting. Better to remember in my mind. Or rather, to try and forget.
