The site of Red Bird
restaurant is the former center of Roman Catholicism in Southern
California. Cardinals lived there (thus Redbird's name). The massive
door behind the host stand had been donated to St. Vibiana's by a pope.
Walking up the steps to the former rectory, you pass through a softly
glowing cocktail lounge and into a former patio, newly crowned with a
retractable roof. From some angles, you can even see bits of the former
cathedral interior through the big glass windows. We were there to, well, just because it’s not often that our whole group is together. Actually, now that I think about it, it’s four times a year. But these are not people who squander an opportunity to enjoy a great meal. So we did. And topped off the evening in song for Brad's birthday: |
