When I was an unpaid intern living in Washington years ago, the after-work cocktail reception was the place we all went to eat and meet during the work week. It was the days before email and cell phones, so all the arrangements were made with numerous phone calls to our offices each afternoon. I'm sure it was very annoying to the career professionals we worked with. Today's interns are no doubt more efficient and discreet.

But today, I was legit. Helping to set up and host Metropolitan's reception for the California Congressional delegation to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first deliveries of Colorado River Aqueduct water to Southern California.
