The new California quarter was unveiled today. Since the festivities were just a block from my office, I walked over at lunchtime to see what was going on. The lines wound around the block with people waiting to buy the new quarters. I got into line, but was soon told by the museum's docent was that they were running of the rolls of quarters. "We brought $50,000 worth of quarters and thought that would be plenty!" Then, she mentioned that I could buy a quarter in a nice little folder with a picture of the Governor and First Lady -- for $5.00. And yet, it seemed like a small price to pay not to come home empty-handed.
