We were just joking with Katie when we asked, So, shall we get your ears pierced?" 

"Sure," she replied.

"Really?"  We queried her.

"If I can have pink earrings" was her only concern.

It helped a little that one of her preschool buddies had her ears pierced the week before. It helped even more that Katie didn't seem to understand it involved poking a needle through the earlobe. The woman at Claire's was very gentle and Katie never cried or squirmed. What a brave kid. And smart too:

"Since I was so good, NOW can I get something from The Disney Store?"
