We've had the same pediatrician for nearly 30 years, which seems pretty
remarkable. I 'interviewed' Dr. Lamendola when I was pregnant with Danny
in 1988 and I liked his quirky humor and low-key style. Most of my
friends opted to go with the upscale pediatric offices on the other side
of town with fancier
decor and more professional front offices. But we stuck with Jack the
whole time. There were plenty of frustrations. This is a doctor who, until recently, accepted walk-ins along with those of us who usually had appointments. That made the waits excruciatingly long. But once he was in the room with us, things never seemed rushed and he always knew his stuff. A couple of times, he really came to the rescue by quickly diagnosing and getting treatment started. Most recently when Katie had scarlet fever (who knew that was still a thing?) one day before she was scheduled to leave on a class trip to Peru. He didn't need to send her to the lab and wait for results -- he just gave her the antibiotics and she was able to make the trip. Today might have been our last appointment with him. Katie turns 18 in a couple of weeks so she'll be leaving the pediatrician world. I probably should have taken a real photo, but it seemed too weird so I just snapped a few candids to remember him and the office. |
