Before winding up our weekend in LA and heading home, we drove out to Palos Verdes to meet up with Margaret and Michael, and Cary and Laura --  friends whom we've known since our early days in Sacramento. Although it had been a while since our last get together, we picked up right where we left off. 

The topics of conversation have changed over the years -- from finding an awesome happy hour to the merits of universal health care --  from roommate stories to home remodeling sagas. There have been career changes and we've all traded the single life for beautiful families. But sitting around the table and sharing brunch with these great people had a sense of timelessness, and that's something to treasure.

Two disclaimers. First, my photos don't do justice to what a beautiful day it was, with a cloudless sky and bright blue ocean stretching out to the horizon. And secondly, although the kids look rather bored in the photos, they in fact had a great time with each other, sharing video game secrets, locking each other in the bathrooms, and searching for elusive 'brain trees.'
