While many other dads spent Saturdays on the golf courses, our weekends were usually spent doing yard work - mowing the lawn, raking leaves, trimming plants and then the grand finale when Dad would 'wash down' the entire front yard. During the week, our lawn regularly served as a gathering place for the kids on the street - the Smiths, Zatesons, Holbooks and Berts were there most of the time we were growing up. Other families came and went - the Dunphys, Collins, Andersons, Barnharts, and a few others.
