Las Vegas, Nevada

April 19, 2007

The Las Vegas water district is nearing completion of a $200 million project on the sight of the historical springs that provided water for the early settlers.  In addition to miles of hiking trails and restored cienagas (wetlands), the preserve will feature an outdoor amphitheater, children's museum, education center, sustainable gardens, and one of the pump houses that brings water to Las Vegas from the Colorado River. The five buildings under construction on the site are among the 'greenest' structures in the country, having received a platinum LEED rating. The Springs Preserve opens to the public in a few months, but we were lucky to get a behind the scenes tour this week.
