Sacramento, California
February 7, 2009
Sacramento's
annual Museum Day is a great opportunity to sample many of the different museums
and parks in the area. With free admission, shuttles and helpful staff, we spent
this day of discovery at three venues.
The California Museum is a block from my office and although I walk past it several times a week, I've never ventured inside. Until today. Two floors of exhibits, showcasing California's legacy and history. Next, we headed north a few miles to Aerospace Museum of California. In addition to the gold rush in the 19th century and the development of state government in the 20th, Sacramento's history has strong roots in the military and aerospace, and some of that tradition is highlighted here. On our way home, we stopped in Old Sacramento for a quick visit to the Railroad Museum. Katie is studying California history in school this year, so it was a good chance to see beautifully restored trains and learn about the role of the railroad in the history of the West. |
