Sacramento, California
July 2018
I'm not sure exactly when I decided to sell, but by early July my mind
was made up to get the house cleaned up and put it on the market. I'll take it slow, I told myself. Maybe clear out one room each week and then contact a realtor in the fall. Or possibly wait until next spring. But the pieces fell into place much faster than I'd expected - thanks mostly to Lisa who stayed in Sacramento for three weeks this month. She packed and painted, and choreographed much of the cleaning, junk removal, yardwork and repairs. I helped my cause by letting go of most of the 30+ years of accumulated items that filled the closets, drawers and shelves. From furniture to dishes, knick-knacks to clothing, old files to toys and games. Some of it went fast thanks to postings on the Free section of Craigslist. Other items were donated to Goodwill. And a few boxes came down in the car to be stored until I find a new home. One of the most emotional moments for me was to clean this door jam in the between the laundry room and the kitchen, where we had measured the kids' heights over the years. But saving it on video helps. The house went on the market in late July and then came the waiting game for whatever happens next. Real estate photos |
