It's only a few minutes off the main highway, but this town
definitely has a relaxed old soul. Established as a sugar
plantation and mill in the mid-1800s and then burned to the
ground during the Civil War, it's still got plenty of remnants
of the past as well as some very cool waterfront restaurants,
wildlife activities, marinas and fishing, interesting
characters, and small town charm. We grabbed a drink at the Tiki Bar, then walked over to watch some people clean their just-caught scallops while some several large birds watched for any leftovers. Video |
