All day, we had traveled through the Mohave Desert, looking at stark landscapes and learning about the massive water system that was constructed 75 years ago to bring water to Southern California.
But this hike down a steep hillside just outside of Gene Camp revealed something you wouldn't expect to find in a desert - a true oasis. Most dams leak a little and this one at Gene Wash is no exception. And even a small amount of water is enough to have created this beautiful site over the past three-quarters of a century.
