Cat Food Tacos No More                      More Photo Album                   Home

Pasadena, California

December 27, 2015

We weren't adventurous eaters growing up. I don't think I tried Chinese food until we visited the Schreibers in New Jersey when I was in 5th or 6th grade (and got very sick that night). I can't remember having pizza until I was in junior high school and tagged along on Jerry's Boy Scout field trip to Shakeys. Certainly there was no sushi or Indian food that passed my lips until well past college.

But we did enjoy Mexican food. El Charro in Montrose was our Friday night go-to place for many years and I liked their cheese enchilada and the tacos. But there was one time when family friends suggested we go out to dinner at Mijares in Pasadena. We did and all I remember was that the taco meat looked like cat food. We didn't go back.

That is, until this past Sunday when our group of Linda Vista classmates met to tour The Gamble House and then had a late lunch at Mijares. I'm glad to report the place has either stopped serving cat food or my palate has gotten a little more refined and accepting. Or both.
