As Lisa opened the car door, neither of us looked each other in the eye because we probably would have cried. Fast forward four years. This school, with its unique curriculum and committed teachers, was a place where Lisa blossomed. Her classmates were great, as were the teachers and staff. There were many field trips, academic competitions, and unique extra-curricular activities.
Tonight marked the end of that journey. With straight A's all four years, Lisa shared valedictorian honors with two of her best friends. Her voice cracked as she started the speech, but everyone in the audience understood how emotional the evening was for these students. As Lisa reached the part of her speech where she quoted lines from her favorite Broadway musical, she smiled and hit her stride. It was a special night.
