As we were settling down for the night, Katie came running into the family room with what looked like blood streaming from her nose.  

"I thought my nose was my mouth, and I accidentally put a jelly bean in it,"  she said between deep sobs. 

We quickly surmised from the cinnamon smell that the 'blood' streaming from her nose was actually the coating of the red jelly bean beginning to melt.  And Katie was able to breath out of the nostril which was reassuring. Still, we could see in our future a long evening at the emergency room where our parental supervision skills would be called into question (and rightly so...)

But several minutes of nose blowing and warm compresses later, the jelly bean found its way out.
