I knew, from the moment I saw Lisa's face as we passed the road sign for Castle Crags State Park, that we were destined to spend part of our 4th of July hiking across the Pacific Crest Trail up towards scraping spires of granite known as Castle Crags.

It was a tough hike up to the Dome, at least for me. We walked uphill for more than 2 hours -- first on nicely maintained wide pathways, but then the trail became rockier and narrow. I threatened to quit a couple of times, but eventually pulled it together and followed Lisa up the hill.

We didn't make it all the way to the end of the trail (this time), deciding to call it quits at Bob's Hat Trail and Indian Springs, but Lisa loved it. And I was glad I made it as far as I did. And who knows, we might even try it again next year.
