The Great Wall at Mutainyu More Photo Album Home
Mutianyu, China
November 6, 2009
On my last full day in China, I hired a taxi driver to take me north of Beijing to the Ming Tombs and the Great Wall. The Tombs were not particularly interesting -- which could have something do with the fact that they are mostly still underground and there's very little to see. But after riding for another hour thru small towns and farmland, we came to the Mutainyu Great Wall.. (Side note: Along the way, we came to a roadblock. The two police approached the taxi, had the driver blow into a breathalyzer, and then waved him through.) At Mutainyu, like many other places, you can hike up to the Wall. But they have also constructed a chair lift that takes you to the top. To get down, you can either take the lift or ride the slide. It was an easy choice to make.
