Los Angeles, California
December 14, 2016
I was the guest of a co-worker for dinner at
the Los Angeles Country Club. I’ve driven by the place a million times,
but never had reason (or rather an invitation) to enter through the
gates. Not many people do. An article in the Hollywood Reporter
described it this way: “a bastion of bankers and
corporate execs, LACC remains hands-down the most clannish and is known
for shunning entertainment types in general.” But tonight I was there. A magnificent gingerbread village fills the lobby during the holidays. According to the brochure, it is baked and built by the club’s pastry department and takes about a month to complete. Over 1,000 pounds of edible material is used in the construction process.
