With a couple of days to spare before our big road trip, Katie and I flew to Southern California for a quick Disneyland fix and ended up with quite a few lucky breaks.

As the only passengers on the Disneyland shuttle from the airport, our driver took us straight to the main gate, rather than winding through the regular bus route and dropping us at the hotels.

Standing in line to get our World of Color fast passes, we struck up a conversation with a woman who, it turns out, will likely be Katie's algebra teacher at middle school next year.

We decided to grab an early lunch at the Pilot's Grill in California Adventure, and were treated to a 'magic moment'  by the Disneyland including a special reserved table complete with linens and china, and our own wait staff.

Jerry and Alex had agreed to brave rush hour traffic to meet us in the evening for a few rides and to watch the shows in both parks, including watching Fantasmic from the comfort of Cafe Orleans.

Around midnight, they left for home and Katie and I went to catch our hotel shuttle bus. We arrived at the hotel only to find I had made our reservation for the previous Monday evening.  But the front desk clerk was extremely gracious and gave us a room nonetheless.

The next day was fun-filled, though far less eventful as I recall but still a great start to our vacation.
