Metropolitan is one of the largest landowners in the Palo Verde Valley which straddles the lower Colorado River between Lake Havasu and Yuma and has fallowing agreements with many of the region's farmers. Why? Because these lands enjoy senior water rights to precious water supplies. The fallowing and other conservation agreements provide financial incentives to farmers to reduce water use. That saved water can then be made available to urban Southern Californians.

We spent the day meeting with some of the farmers and water managers, learning more about the programs.
