For his gift, Jenny and John helped me by driving a new Ford Thunderbird that we had rented down to the campus and decorated it with a giant gold bow.
After the ceremony and photos with family, we walked to the parking lot. I remember Joe pointing to the car and saying, "Wow, someone's really lucky." Then he looked at my big smile and the keys in my hand and realized it was for him. It was a great surprise. (This was a rental, but a few weeks later, we bought a nearly identical one that he drove for many years.)
