We were on hand to see the world's second largest plane, a Russian AN-124, deliver a huge new turbine runner for the state's hydroelectric power plant at Oroville Dam. The runner, which was manufactured in Canada, is one of several at the power plant that takes energy from flowing water and generates electric power. It took nearly four hours to open the nose, set up the tracks, slowly lower the runner down the ramp and pick it up with a crane to load on a truck that will transport it later this week the final 100 miles to Oroville.
