Kanchanaburi, Thailand

November 27-30, 2008

For many years, we've heard about the fabulous home that Aunt Judi and Uncle Craig built in the country, near the city of Kanchanaburi. I knew it would be beautiful, but it exceeded my expectations with its attention to detail and magnificent setting both inside and out. Two pools, beautiful tile work, unique Asian and European artistic elements, open air patio, amazing gardens, and a view of the river and mountains beyond.

But our favorite story about the home, and there were many, was told by Judy who rather nonchalantly talked about the wild elephants who stampeded through the backyard during construction, tearing down fences and playing havoc with the property. This section of land was, apparently, part of the path the local elephant herds used during their migration. But not to worry (or so she said), for it just takes a phone call to the Thai government, who sends a crew out to repair the damage done by elephants.
