  Englewood and Tenafly, New Jersey

  October 27, 2007

On a typical Saturday in the suburbs of northern New Jersey, Sue and Lou spend much of their day shopping for just the right ingredients to make a special dinner.

Although Lisa and I originally wanted to go apple picking or do some other outdoor activity, the weather wasn't cooperating. So we decided to tag along for a cooking adventure.

First stop was an Italian market in nearby Englewood to get fresh cheeses, pasta, sauces and the wines. Then off to the Tenafly Gourmet Farm for produce. We bought rolls from Teixeira's bakery and then the meat from a local butcher shop.

Once home, Lou and Sue made lasagna, along with a dish of escarole and cranberry beans. Lisa and I baked mini Italian chocolate cakes that we used to kick off her birthday celebration.
