Disneyland

September 24, 2011

About a year ago, my former co-worker Cary was in town on business. We got to talking about old times, then family and then Disneyland. Cary mentioned that his company had a membership in Club 33. I jokingly chastised him for telling me that because going to Club 33 there been an ongoing subject of conversation in our house. He assured me that he'd love to take us 'if we're ever in LA.' (I resisted the urge to tell him we could be there the next day, or the next, or the next...)

Months passed, but we finally found a few days that worked for us, Cary made the reservations and had the great idea to invite the Nelsons, who had also both worked with us in the Governor's Office in the late 1980s.

They put us in the Trophy Room, a smaller semi-private dining area of the Club. Our waiter, whohas worked there for 37 years, was all too pleased to tell us stories about the history of the club.

The food was quite good but it was all about the adventure. Throughout the evening, the kids (okay, not just the kids) spent a lot of time away from the table exploring the restaurant, spending time on the secret balcony looking over New Orleans Square, and making several trips to the very cool bathrooms.

As we were wrapping things up, we heard that Dick Van Dyke was expected shortly. So being a totally cool and nonchalant group of 12  --  we hung out downstairs until he arrived.
