Yountville, California

One of mom and dad's good friends, Polly Lappetito, recently traded her job as executive chef at the Culinary Institute of America Greystone to run the kitchen in a new Italian restaurant in Yountville.  The freestanding wood clapboard building, built in 1916, was a small Italian grocery before its more recent transformation as a cozy 50-seat trattoria.

My five-star Yelp review:

"The pizzas were delicious -- we had the margherita and the smoked mozzarella. Perfect crust and fresh rich flavors.  But the good times don't stop there.  Then we were wowed again with the desserts, especially the citrus cake and gelato.  With so many great restaurants in the Napa Valley, it seems a shame to return to the same one... but that's exactly what we plan to do next time we're in the area."
