Saratoga Springs, New York
June 30, 2018
One of the big benefits of having the minivan
rather than a moving van was that we could easily explore the area
around Albany without looking like the Beverly Hillbillies. On Sunday,
we drove up to Saratoga Springs, famous for its historic racetrack
(which we didn't see) and its mineral springs and bath houses (which we
did). Saratoga Springs was originally called “the Queen of the Spas.” One of the most famous was Roosevelt Baths & Spa which was established in 1935 thanks to President Franklin Roosevelt’s act to preserve Saratoga’s naturally effervescent water. And Saratoga Spring Water Company's water has been served at all presidential inaugurations since 1872. The city also lays claim to the potato chip, said to have been invented here by Moon Lake Lodge chef George Crum in 1853. We had some while hanging out at the Victoria Pool club that was built in the 1930s. |
